What are drop-in dance classes?
Short answer: A drop-in dance class is a single class you can join without enrolling in a full course. You pay for that one class or use a pass, and booking rules vary by studio. At the Chicago studios we checked, published drop-in prices ran from $16 to $30.
Drop-in classes and courses
| Drop-in class | Course or session | |
|---|---|---|
| What you pay for | One class or a pass | A set number of weeks |
| Commitment | None beyond that class | You sign up for the whole session |
| Good for | Trying a studio or teacher, or a changing schedule | Steady progress with the same group |
| Example | Hyde Park lists $22 per adult class | Old Town School runs an 8-week adult hip hop course |
Do you need to book ahead?
It depends on the studio, so check before you leave home.
- The Puzzle Box: walk-ins are welcome, but registering ahead holds your spot if the class reaches capacity.
- Urbanity: asks students to register by 3 PM on the day of class.
- Hyde Park School of Dance: asks adults to buy a drop-in pass through its registration system and then use it for a specific class.
Drop-in hip hop and street dance in Chicago
Our Chicago schedule lists adult classes you can book one at a time, with the date, time, level and price. You can filter by level, style, studio, day, time or teacher.
Before you go
- Confirm the class is still on, because classes can be cancelled or get a substitute teacher.
- Check whether the price includes the class you picked. Workshops can cost more.
- Check the level. Being allowed to drop in does not mean the class is for beginners.
